Amplify Black Voices

Historically, Black voices have been muted in America; this is putting it gently. In fact Black voices have been snuffed out by means of enslavement, murder, and white appropriation. It has to be said that what should have always been a basic Human right, the freedom of artistic expression, should never be punished. It may seem like the U.S. has come a long way in amplifying Black voices, but we see today that racism has persisted and continues to be taught to this day in some obvious, and some more subtle ways. It is our responsibility to always give a platform to Black artists and to celebrate the accomplishments of Black artists in our community. Black art is essential to reflecting the true diaspora of American Art. We strive to continue to represent Black artists, not because of global trend but because of our mission to honestly reflect our own community. Black artists have always been here and Black artists are born every day. — Rebecca Ustrell, Founder, Editor in Chief, Curious Publishing, a comprehensive fiscal sponsored project of The Arts Area.
